As the saying goes, never look for ideas.
Look for problems—the pain points.
And build solutions for them.

And here I found my first app idea.
Or a problem to solve while sitting/standing in a tea shop.

Me and my roommates go out for tea every day.
And it rarely stops at a tea, or just tea.

Rounds and rounds of tea, coffee, and snacks nourish the cherishing conversations. We end up standing at the billing counter, guessing who had what and how many.

It takes many rounds of calculations.
And a lot of back and forth to come up with the bill.

And to the question of splitting the amount, we are clueless.

It’s been going on for a month now.
And after 5–6 days, I started jotting down the items on WhatsApp.

Yet I was left with confusion, as the same item could be ordered many times. And to find the total order for the item, I would need to sit down and calculate while scrolling.

I wanted a simple expense logger:

  • Which could show who ordered what and in what quantity.
  • The total bill is to be paid to the shop.
  • How much does each person owe to the person who paid the bill.

And all this in a simple chat-like app interface.

That right there is the first app idea I will be building.
